Here we are at hottest time of year, and today will not disappoint — as long as you have a pool to jump into! The combination of heat and humidity makes today feel like the hottest day of summer so far, and it may be capped off by some boomers. It is a little scary that just slipping back to seasonable temperatures on the weekend will be a relief. Storms this weekend should be few and far between making outdoor activities a cautious go. The heat and humidity return in force by Monday.

Today (Thursday): Scattered clouds provide limited shape relief and humidity remains oppressive. This makes highs in the low-to-mid 90s feel more painful (heat indices in lower 100s). Thunderstorms are likely to hold off until late afternoon but could produce locally heavy downpours. Breezes are light from the west. Confidence: High

Tonight: Storms may linger through around sunset, but they should be hit or miss. Readings in the 80s make the indoors still preferable. Overnight lows only manage the low-to-mid 70s with light southwest breezes. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Humidity is still oppressive to start the day but does ever so slowly decline to less painful levels by late afternoon. This keeps the chance for showers and storms limited but not zero. Breezes are light from the west. Above normal readings still prevail with highs in the low-to-mid 90s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The drop in humidity continues into the evening making readings in the 80s more manageable especially after sunset. Lows slip to the upper 60s to lower 70s with light northwest breezes. Confidence: High

Saturday is about as seasonable as it gets with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, moderate humidity and only the slightest chance of a late afternoon pop up thundershower, mainly south of the city. The evening is relatively pleasant for those outdoor barbecues with readings mainly in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Overnight lows hold in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Look for a fine start to a typical summer day on Sunday but by later in the day humidity starts to creep back up and highs sneak back to the upper 80s to lower 90s. Thunderstorm chances are still low keeping pool and beach a fine destination. Overnight lows range from upper 60s suburbs to mid-70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday sees humidity return to more painful levels and highs surge back into the low-to-mid 90s. Afternoon thunderstorm chances remain low. Confidence: Medium-High
