A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Mugginess and temps near or past 90 remain, but at least any late-day storms should be less widespread than today.

Today: Partly sunny, chance of storms late. Highs: Upper 80s to low 90s.
Tonight: Diminishing storm chance. Lows: 70s.
Tomorrow: Partly sunny, a few p.m. storms possible. Highs: Near 90.

Showers and thunderstorms, while not as numerous as yesterday, remain a threat later today into this evening. After the deluge many of us saw yesterday, “not as numerous” is welcome news. Still, any storm could put down some heavy rain in a short period of time. We begin a drying trend after today, though, with a lower chance of storms tomorrow, followed by less humid and slightly cooler weather midweek. The respite is short-lived, however, as the heat and humidity build once again toward the weekend.

Today (Sunday): Much of the day should be rain free, with partly sunny skies and highs heading for the upper 80s to low 90s. It’s another humid day, though, with enough moisture and energy to warrant the chance of some late afternoon showers and thunderstorms. About a 50-60 percent chance of getting wet at any given location. The unlucky ones who get hit by more than one of these potential storms could face a brief flooding threat. Winds are light from the southwest. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Shower and storm chances linger at around 30 percent during the evening, with just a slight chance for a stray storm overnight. Otherwise it’s a mostly cloudy and sticky night, with only a light wind doing little to move the humid air. Lows in the mid-to-upper 70s are likely for most, closer to 70 in the outer suburbs. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): We’re looking very similar to today, maybe just a touch less humid as highs reach near 90 under partly sunny skies. There’s still enough moisture and instability around for the chance of a few afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms (30 percent chance). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The potential for a few showers and storms continues during the evening, with rain chances remaining around 30 percent. Any showers/storms that are around should diminish toward midnight, as the front finally pushes through and drier air begins to work in. Expect partly cloudy skies overnight, with lows falling to the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

If you’ve been looking for a break from the heat, humidity and thunderstorm threats, then you’ll like our midweek forecast. Cooler and drier arrives for Tuesday and Wednesday, providing us with a bit of relief.  Now let’s be clear, it’s still rather warm, with highs in the mid-80s to near 90. But slightly cooler temperatures combined with lower humidity (dew points falling into the low-to-mid 60s, as opposed to today’s low 70s) are a marked improvement. Overnights are improved as well, with lows ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium
