FORECAST IN DETAIL

Get ready to sweat for one last day! Boy, though, does it get better starting tomorrow. Drier and cooler air really tries to move in for at least a couple days. If you like temperatures mainly between 50 and 80 degrees, you’re in luck!

Today (Friday): Some early clouds are possible but we should see increased sunshine as the day wears on. Temperatures respond to the sunshine by afternoon, rising into the mid-80s to around 90 (almost 15 degrees above average!). A saving grace is dew points in the 60s, staying just shy (we hope) of the unpleasant threshold. Breezes appear to stay light and vary in direction all day. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Evening 80s and south-southwesterly breezes around 5 to 10 mph help keep it tolerable. Dew points could slip below 60 degrees by dawn, creating even more comfortable conditions. Low temperatures should bottom out in the upper 60s downtown, with perhaps a few low 60s well outside of the Beltway. Confidence: Medium-High

nice day

Tomorrow (Saturday): This could be an enjoyable transition — even if we have periodic clouds — into nearly autumnal conditions (I say with caution). Drier air should ride in on 5 to 10 mph northerly breezes. While it’s possible we stay at or just below 80 degrees. Let’s call it mid-70s to around 80 for now. Enjoy! Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clearer early and cloudier late? Temperatures may drop toward the 60-degree mark —  even downtown?! We’ll see if this ends our impressive streak of 60 degrees or warmer. We are approaching the record but this could stop the streak. Around 50 degrees is possible in northern suburbs. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday: Another potential Nice Day stamp could be issued. It should prove fall-like with dry, comfortable dew points in the 40s, along with high temperatures around 70 into the mid-70s. A few clouds are possible from time to time, but let’s emphasize rain chances are essentially zero. Sunshine still has a good chance to dominate. Confidence: Medium

Sunday night: Looks like it wants to stay clear and fairly comfortable — even downtown, where low temperatures around 60 are again possible. Regional temperature variances are often high on the clearest, calmest nights. It’s possible to see a few upper 40s in exurban locations, but around 50 (to low 50s) is probable for most of the suburbs. Confidence: Medium

A mix of sun and clouds are possible Monday and into Tuesday as autumnal temperatures (around average, at least) in the 70s appear likely. Monday may be a bit “cooler” than Tuesday — which could see temperatures again eye the 80-degree mark, especially south of town. We’ll watch for some needed rain, but so far chances are low — sorry. Confidence: Low-Medium
