Colorado’s fall foliage is famous for its golden aspens, and droves of photographers flock to Vermont for its fiery maples and oaks. But Michigan boasted the best fall color scenes this past fall, camera equipment company Nikon says. Or, at least, it had the nation’s most enthusiastic photographers.

The camera-maker asked photographers to share their fall foliage photos on social media (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) and received more than 8,000 entries. The most entries, of any state, came from Michigan.

The runners-up were New York, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. New York was the previous year’s winner.

“The most remarkable photos that were shared exhibited Michigan’s stunning hills, warm inviting parks and the Great Lakes contrasted against bright reds and blazing oranges,” Nikon’s news release said.
