Cold air is pouring into North America, and ski season is about to head into full swing.

When riding chairlifts, some skiers and snowboarders choose not to lower the safety bar. The above video shows why that can be risky.

On Saturday morning at Whistler ski resort in British Columbia, a 14-year-old boy fell out of his seat on the Emerald Express lift, leaving him dangling from the chair. The video shows rescuers gathered beneath the lift to break his fall with a fireman’s net. He then plunges 26 feet and is partially intercepted by the net before slamming into the ground.

According to CBC News, the boy was injured and taken to the Whistler Medical Clinic.
