Take a nice deep breath this morning. After last night’s rumblers, we earn a short reprieve from the humid heat today and tomorrow. Sunshine and low humidity are the main headlines today and tomorrow before muggier conditions ooze back into the area Thursday and Friday. The weekend seems complicated, however, as another cool front approaches and moisture from a Gulf of Mexico tropical disturbance could complicate matters.
Today (Tuesday): Mostly sunny skies and falling humidity greet us as high temperatures by afternoon manage the middle to upper 80s. The sun angle is still quite strong this time of year, but at least we won’t have that heavy humidity. Light winds blow from the west at about 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: High
Tonight: Just a few clouds around as temperatures fall to a more comfortable 60s range (lower 60s in outer suburbs to upper 60s in the city for overnight lows). Light winds from the west again. Confidence: High
Tomorrow (Wednesday): The first day of summer should feel pretty good as temperatures only manage the middle to maybe upper 80s, with continued relatively low humidity under partly to mostly sunny skies. Light breezes from the west. Confidence: Medium-high
Tomorrow night: Mostly clear but some humidity increase as lows range from the middle 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-high
Thursday becomes slightly more humid and hotter with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. Skies should be partly to mostly sunny, however. Thursday night aims for partly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 60s to middle 70s. Confidence: Medium-high
Friday features a rebound of high humidity as temperatures range in the upper 80s to around 90. It may end up being our most uncomfortable day of the workweek, but a round of showers and thunderstorms could provide some middle to late afternoon relief. Friday night could see a few more scattered showers and thunderstorms, but otherwise partly cloudy skies. Lows in the muggy 7os. Confidence: Medium
The weekend looks challenging at this point. Saturday seems more likely to be still on the warm and humid side with scattered showers and storms (highs upper 80s to low 90s) with more scattered showers and storms Saturday night with lows in the 70s. Sunday could see the cool front sweep through to offer us more sunshine and lower humidity; however, another scenario is that lingering energy from the current Gulf tropical system slows down the cool front and keeps us right along it Sunday with more showers and storms and humidity (highs 80s). I’m leaning toward the drier, nicer side for now, but confidence is low. Confidence: Medium Saturday, Low Sunday.
