We’re into what is often the steamiest of summer’s steamy days around here. But this August has started with a rather tame heat wave, if you want to call it that, with temperatures topping out near 90 and moderate humidity through tomorrow. Friday is slightly muggier with a chance of showers and storms late, before a mostly pleasant weekend.

Today (Wednesday): The heat and humidity have settled back into the area. Although both could certainly be a lot worse. We’ll see partly sunny skies as highs head for near 90 to the low 90s, with moderate humidity and a light wind from the south around 5-10 mph. Could see an isolated storm or two late this afternoon. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: An isolated storm or two remain possible through the evening. Otherwise we’re partly cloudy with lows down to the upper 60s to low 70s, as a light breeze from the south keeps us moderately muggy. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Pretty much more of the same. Highs make their way to near 90 to the low 90s again, with partly sunny skies and moderate humidity. Can’t rule out a couple of isolated late-afternoon storms. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Again, no big changes here, other than the potential for more clouds. Still that chance of a couple of isolated evening storms. And then we’re partly to mostly cloudy with lows from the upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Our next cold front approaches Friday. But as of now, it looks like the best chance for showers and storms will hold off until Friday evening or overnight. Before then, partly to mostly sunny skies should help temperatures to near 90 to the low 90s again, with humidity creeping a bit higher. Confidence: Medium

High pressure gradually builds in this weekend. If the front pushes away fast enough, then Saturday could be partly to mostly sunny with lower humidity. But if the front lingers, then we could still see morning clouds and a few showers or storms, with sunnier skies and decreasing humidity in the afternoon. Sunday looks like a good bet for partly to mostly sunny skies and low humidity, with highs both days in the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: Medium
