11:15 a.m. update: A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of the Beltway including Northwest D.C., Bethesda, Silver Spring and Arlington, among others. An area of heavy rain is moving through the immediate metro. The ground is already very saturated so this heavy rain will run off. Do not drive through flood water!

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Cloudy canopy won’t go away, but keeps 90s at bay

Today: Cloudy, scattered showers. Highs: 84-87.
Tonight: Partial clearing, bit muggy. Lows: 69-75.
Tomorrow: Partly sunny, hotter. Highs: 88-92.

The grey start to the workweek continues for one more day. Scattered showers and maybe a rumble of thunder contribute to our dreary situation. Sunshine returns tomorrow, as does more humidity and heat as we aim for our first 90-degree reading in about 10 days. Clouds and storm chances return as mugginess stays Thursday and especially Friday into Saturday before improvement by Sunday.

Today (Tuesday): Yuck. Cloudy with scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm. Highs move up a bit more than Monday into the middle-80s range, but if showers are more widespread around midday, we may struggle again to get much above 80 or the low 80s. We stay moderately humid as well. Light winds blow from the east. Most areas should pick up about a tenth- to a quarter-inch of rain (Update: Some spots could occasionally see heavier downpours into midday with totals up to a half inch or more). Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Some scattered evening showers, but then becoming partly cloudy overnight with mugginess remaining. Lows in the upper 60s to middle 70s as light winds continue to flow from the east. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Wednesday): The sun promises to make a stronger comeback with high temperatures going hotter into the upper 80s to low 90s along with moderate humidity to make it feel more like the middle 90s at times (afternoon dew points around 70). Partly sunny skies could occasionally achieve mostly sunny levels with winds mainly from a westerly direction. Confidence: Medium-high

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy and moderately muggy with lows in the upper 60s to middle 70s again.  Confidence: Medium-high

Thursday introduces a few more clouds — let’s call it partly cloudy at least with scattered afternoon and evening showers/thunderstorms. Highs are again up around 90 degrees with moderate humidity. Thursday night could see more scattered showers/storms with lows in the muggy 70s. Confidence: Medium

Friday is trending wetter with more widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening with some chances for heavier downpours at times. Highs range in the middle to upper 80s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Friday night finds more cloudy conditions with scattered showers and storms with lows in the 70s. Confidence: Medium

The weekend continues the theme of partly to mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers/storms at least into Saturday with high temperatures up around 90 again, but now it looks like Sunday stays somewhat unsettled too with partly cloudy skies and pm storm chances as highs hit the upper 80s range.  Saturday night looks partly cloudy with lows ranging in the upper 60s to low 70s.    Confidence: Low-medium
