FORECAST IN DETAIL

As Irma continues to hammer the Southeast, our weather remains rather nice to start the work week. Irma’s leftover moisture and energy does bring us an increasing chance of showers tomorrow and especially tomorrow night, and again Thursday through Friday. But for now, rain amounts don’t look too heavy.

nice day

Today (Monday): High pressure stays mostly in control, even as it starts to give way to Irma’s influence from the south. That means partly sunny skies and afternoon highs into the mid-70s, with light winds from the east. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies turn mostly cloudy, if not by evening, then overnight. Can’t rule out a sprinkle, but otherwise we should stay dry, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Showers from Irma try to move in from the southwest. A few could get in here during the morning, though for now the chance is only 20 percent to 30 percent, increasing to a 40 percent chance of afternoon showers. With mostly cloudy skies and a light wind from the east, highs should stall in the low to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Some showers seem likely. I wouldn’t rule out the potential for some heavier downpours. Although right now the models aren’t giving us all that much precipitation. Lows are on the mild side under overcast skies, only dropping to the 60s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Shower chances may hang around during the morning on Wednesday, with the potential for skies to brighten somewhat in the afternoon. That should help highs into the mid-to-upper 70s. Partly cloudy skies Wednesday night with lows in the 60s again. Confidence: Medium

A final wave of Irma’s leftover energy gives us a chance of occasional showers Thursday through Friday. As of now, amounts don’t look particularly heavy, although a thunderstorm or two is possible. Highs both days head for the upper 70s to low 80s, and it’s fairly humid as well. Confidence: Low to medium

Higher pressure looks to move in this weekend. That should reduce, but not necessarily eliminate, our chances for showers and storms. The humidity may still be noticeable, with highs aiming for the upper 70s to low 80s. Confidence: Low to medium
