The remnants of Nate zip by to our west and north today, sending a wave of showers through the region and gusty winds at times. We catch a break from the rain Tuesday before back-to-back damp days Wednesday and Thursday. We should start to dry out Friday, setting up a nice weekend. Although this week brings us into the middle of October, fall-like weather is conspicuously absent. Generally, it’s warmer and/or more humid than normal.
Today (Monday): Periods of rain are likely this morning, and may be heavy at times — especially in our west and northwest areas. Some gusty winds accompany the rain, and we could clock some gusts in the 30-40 mph range (strongest in our west and northwest areas). The rain tends to taper off by the afternoon — with just a slight chance of a lingering shower or thundershower. It’s abnormally humid all day long, making high temperatures near 80 feel several degrees warmer. Rainfall totals should range from around 0.5 inches in the immediate area to around 1.0 inches in our west and northwest areas. Locations well south and southeast of Washington may pick up only around 0.25 inches. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: A lingering shower can’t be entirely ruled out; otherwise, it’s mostly cloudy and balmy. Overnight lows range from near 70 downtown to the mid-60s in our cooler areas. Some patchy fog may develop toward morning. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow (Tuesday): Areas of fog are possible early on but should burn off by midmorning or so. During the afternoon, it’s partly sunny, and very warm and humid, with highs 80-85. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Cloud cover and showers may develop (30 percent chance), especially toward morning. It’s another very mild night, with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium
Wednesday and Thursday we’re socked in with clouds and moisture. Wednesday is probably the wetter of the two days with periods of rain, while Thursday may be more misty. Both days see little or nothing in the way of sun and, with winds from the east off the ocean, temperatures are cooler. Highs are mostly in the 60s to near 70, with lows right around 60. Confidence: Medium
It may still be overcast and damp early Friday, but clouds should gradually disperse, setting up a nice weekend. Highs Friday should be around 70 — maybe 75 if more sunshine emerges. Over the weekend, both days are partly to mostly sunny with highs near 80. Overnight lows should be close to 60. Confidence: Medium
