FORECAST IN DETAIL

While today offers a reprieve from a stretch of unseasonable October warmth, it will come at a price, with widespread showers across the area. These cooler, more fall-like temperatures stick with us through Friday, but so do gloomy and gray skies along with a chance of occasional light rain and/or mist. We clear out in time for the weekend, while warm temperatures more fitting for September creep back in.

Today (Wednesday): Showers are developing across the area early this morning and should affect at least one commute and maybe both. The wet weather will be fairly widespread throughout the day, but there will be some dry periods, too. Overall, it’s damp and noticeably cooler, as highs climb very little from this morning’s readings, perhaps peaking in the 70-75 range this afternoon. Winds blow at 5-10 mph out of the east. ConfidenceMedium-High

Tonight: We’ll see more showers into this evening, and some shower activity could be heavier in spots. Showers start to dwindle in coverage after midnight, leaving us in a general pattern of clouds and at least occasional drizzle. While temperatures drop into the low and mid-60s, the air continues to feel humid. Winds become more northeasterly and stay in the 5-10 mph range. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): We really start to get that autumn feeling, as temperatures area-wide barely budge over the course of the day, remaining in the 60s. Unfortunately, this autumn appetizer doesn’t pair well with a picturesque scene, as we’ll be immersed in clouds and subject to occasional light showers or mist. An easterly wind holds steady and blows at around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: The optics are much the same, featuring more clouds and occasional bouts of light showers or drizzle. Temperatures, however, are a little more fluid, with lows dropping into the mid- and upper 50s. Winds remain easterly and fairly light at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Your Friday the 13th looks a little ominous and, while not exactly a thriller weather-wise, will extend our short-lived cool, damp and dreary run. Highs hold in the 60s with ample cloudiness and a chance of sporadic light showers or drizzle. Perhaps significantly lower humidity levels will offer some consolation, as dew points fall back into the 50s. Confidence: Medium

We finally clear out for the weekend, as skies look partly to mostly sunny. However, warmer air returns. Highs near and past 80, with an upswing in humidity, may not be welcome, although the weather seems cooperative for those of us who have outdoor plans. Confidence: Medium
