FORECAST IN DETAIL

The gray weather that persisted all weekend may hang around for much of the day before skies finally part. If not today, sunshine should certainly return Tuesday and Wednesday. But then, just in time for the start of March, stormy weather returns. It’s probably not cold enough to snow, but wet and increasingly windy conditions close the workweek. Sunshine should return by the weekend, but it’s on the chilly side.

Today (Monday): Look out for patchy fog early on. The wedge of cool, cloudy air that refused to relent this weekend may linger into the afternoon, especially near and east of Interstate 95. Skies should brighten enough to push temperatures to near 50 — maybe low to mid-50s where sunshine emerges. Winds come in from the north around 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Skies finally clear for the most part and it’s chilly — although still not quite as cold as normal. Lows range from near 30 in our colder spots to the upper 30s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): This day is in the running with Wednesday for nicest of the week. After a crisp start, abundant sunshine pushes highs well into the 50s. Winds are light from the south. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clear to partly cloudy skies and chilly, but certainly not bitterly cold. Lows range from the mid-30s in our colder spots to near 40 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday should be Tuesday’s twin in many ways — featuring a good deal of sunshine and pleasant high temperatures for February’s final day — climbing to near 60. Clouds increase at night with a slight chance of rain toward morning, and lows range from 40 to 45. Confidence: Medium-High

The weather Thursday and Friday is dominated by a big, complicated storm system coming at us from the west. Thursday is shaping up to be a plain old rainy day, with highs around 50. Thursday night into Friday, the storm redevelops into a powerhouse off the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast coast, with very windy and cooler conditions on its backside. Temperatures probably hold steady in the 40s and occasional showers are possible. Confidence: Medium

Skies should be clearing but blustery on Saturday, with highs ranging from 45 to 50. After lows in the 30s Sunday morning, the afternoon should see highs near 50 with less windy conditions. Confidence: Medium
