Mike Green will miss a third consecutive game with a groin injury after skating in warmups prior to Saturday’s matinee contest and final meeting of the regular season against the New Jersey Devils.

Prior to the game, Coach Adam Oates cautioned that Green would need to be confident that he could “play 100 percent because I can’t have him go two shifts and then get hurt.” Apparently after taking line rushes alongside Karl Alzner, it was determined Green wasn’t ready.

Braden Holtby (4-6-0, 3.62 goals-against average, .891 save percentage) will make a sixth consecutive start this afternoon for the Capitals. New Jersey will go with back up goaltender Johan Hedberg (2-1-1, 1.72 GAA, .935 save percentage) presumably because they host the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

Just because he’s the backup to Martin Brodeur, though, doesn’t mean Hedberg should be underestimated according to Oates.

“If you look at his numbers the last two years, not much of a drop off,” Oates said. “He’s a really, really good goalie and that’s going to be part of our meeting.”
