Alexander Semin returns to Verizon Center as a member of the Southeast leading Carolina Hurricanes with the Capitals looking to start climbing up the division ladder.

“We need the points and they do too. We’ve talked that every game is obviously very important,” Coach Adam Oates said. “We had a good game [Saturday] and hopefully we can come right back out and have another one and keep the ball rolling.”

While the Capitals may sit 28th overall with 13 points and second to last in the Eastern Conference, a win Tuesday night would put them just four points behind Carolina. With each team in the division still trying to find consistency in this shortened season, the Southeast crown is definitely still up for grabs. If the Capitals are going to make a move there’s no time like the present — they face divisional foes in six of the next 14 games.

Both Nicklas Backstrom and Jason Chimera, who dealt with illness and a lower-body injury on Monday respectively, will be in the lineup tonight based off of line rushes in warmup.
