Open thread: Capitals at Rangers

(John Woods/Associated Press)

The Capitals conclude their longest road trip of the year Sunday night at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers, who have already defeated them twice this season.

Coming off two consecutive wins at the Winnipeg Jets that propelled it back into the postseason conversation, a victory over the Rangers — a bubble team themselves with 32 points in ninth place, would serve Washington well in its attempt to continue moving up the standings.

It’s worth noting, though, that of the Capitals’ 14 wins this season, nine have come against Southeast Division opponents. Heading into Sunday’s tilt in New York, the Capitals are 9-3-0 against Southeast foes and 5-13-1 against all other opponents this season.

Braden Holtby (12-10-0, 2.68 GAA, .916 save percentage) gets the nod for Washington while the Rangers will go with No. 1 netminder Henrik Lundqvist (13-12-1, 2.22 GAA, .921 save percentage).
