Update: Prior to the start of Sunday’s game the Capitals placed Mike Green on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 13, the day after he suffered a lower-body contusion against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Players on injured reserve — it’s important to note this is not long-term IR — must miss a minimum of seven days, so Green would be eligible to return to the lineup Wednesday when the Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With an open spot on the 23-man active roster after putting Green on IR, the Capitals recalled Dmitry Orlov. The defensive prospect has yet to make his season debut with Washington and was a healthy scratch for seven games earlier in November.

Braden Holtby (9-6-0, 2.73 goals-against average .920 save percentage) is expected to get the start Sunday against the St. Louis Blues, who are 6-1 against Eastern Conference foes. The Blues will go with Jaroslav Halak (10-2-2, 2.31 goals-against average .907 save percentage).
