The Capitals will be without center Mikhail Grabovski for a second straight game Tuesday night as the veteran playmaker remained in Washington with the flu.

With Grabovski still sidelined and gritty center Michael Latta having suffered a lower-body injury in Sunday’s game against the Flyers, Washington has recalled veteran AHL forward Casey Wellman.

Wellman, 26, appeared in 41 NHL games for the Minnesota Wild over the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons but hasn’t suited up in an NHL contest since Jan. 19, 2012.

The 6-foot, 183 pound forward has spent the past two years with the Hershey Bears and in 23 games this season has recorded seven goals and 13 points.

The Capitals have yet to announce what the corresponding move will be to make room for Wellman on the 23-man active roster. But given that the Bears have summoned Brandon Anderson from the ECHL’s Reading Royals it seems unlikely that it will be returning Philipp Grubauer to the AHL.
