Zazie Beetz (“Atlanta”) has landed the role of Domino in the upcoming sequel to “Deadpool.” A tweet from Ryan Reynolds confirmed her casting.

Domino has been a part of Deadpool’s universe since they both debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics in the early 1990s.

With the official announcement of Domino’s presence in the film, the most exciting thing for X-Men/Deadpool fans is probably the now-distinct possibility that an X-Force movie could spin out of the Deadpool franchise.

Domino was a founding member of the X-Force comic-book team brought to fame by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld in the ’90s. In that series, Domino fought alongside Nathan Summers, a.k.a. Cable. Cable remains the final casting mystery for the “Deadpool” sequel, but he was heavily hinted at in the “Deadpool 2” trailer that ran ahead of “Logan,” so a casting announcement for him could be coming soon.

With Hugh Jackman hanging up his Wolverine claws for good, the possibility of a new X-Men franchise spawning from “Deadpool” should surely make Twentieth Century Fox executives excited.

The sequel still has no release date, and we don’t know whether Cable and Domino will be friends or foes to Deadpool. We also don’t know whether Cable will come from the future, as he did in the comics, but given the inside jokes in “Deadpool” about the X-Men movies’ confusing timelines, that seems possible.

What seems most obvious at this moment is that if all goes well, “Deadpool 2” won’t be the last time Beetz will play Domino.
