“I NEED someone . . . to show me my place in all this.”

Rey (Daisy Ridley) utters those resonant words as her journey emerges as a crucial arc throughout the new 2½-minute trailer for Disney/Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which debuted during “Monday Night Football” on Disney-owned ESPN.

The trailer begins where we left off in 2015’s “The Force Awakens,” with Rey, lightsaber in hand, having tracked down the reclusive Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on his remote verdant Ahch-To (or, as it’s known in real life, the Irish island of Skellig Michael). “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before,” Luke intones. “It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.”

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) returns fresh off his patricide in the last film, as do Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Kylo has taken to the cockpit, ready to fire away at Resistance ships.

And then there are the especially poignant close-ups of Leia (the late Carrie Fisher), soldiering on as leader without Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

“The Last Jedi,” directed by Rian Johnson, opens Dec. 15.
