Charlie Slowes calls the Nats’ NL East title

Very few people have been a part of the Nationals since their first season in RFK Stadium. Charlie Slowes is one of those people. So maybe you’ll want to listen to his call on 106.7 The Fan Monday night, as the top of the ninth rolled into the bottom of the ninth and the Nats became NL East champions.

“The Pirates have just won it in Pittsburgh, the Pirates have defeated the Braves, and it’s known here in Nationals Park. The Nationals come to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, but they are already the 2012 National League Eastern Division champions! It’s on the board here at Nationals Park! It’s a little odd way to do it, folks, but the Nationals have won the National League Eastern Division championship.”

A few minutes later, the game ended, and the Nats lost, and the fireworks went off anyhow.

“Bang, zoom go the fireworks! The Nationals are the 2012 National League Eastern Division champions!”

(This clip also has a bunch of postgame interviews; in order, they feature Davey Johnson, Bryce Harper, Gio Gonzalez, Ian Desmond, Ryan Zimmerman, Stephen Strasburg, Jayson Werth, Michael Morse, Mike Rizzo and Harper again.)

(The image above comes from George Washington AD Patrick Nero, who took it of Ted Lerner just after the title became official.)
