Among their comments:
* “As one Cardinal said, ‘Gio looked like he didn’t want to be out there. The guy has a 6-0 lead, then 6-1, and he’s panicking out there. We smelled blood.’ “
* Skip Schumaker: “A lot of [Nats] had the bright-eyed, deer-in-the-headlights look. And I’m not going to mention names, but we saw them taking a couple of deep breaths between pitches, and they were up four or five runs. When we saw that, we started talking. We weren’t taking any deep breaths.”
* Mark McGwire: “It starts with Beltran’s double, and I think that scared them. ‘Uh-oh. What’s going on.’ “
And so on. It’s a fine narrative. If Drew Storen gets one borderline two-strike call, though, the narrative no longer has anything to do with the scared Nats or the experienced Cardinals or a panicky Gio or a cool and loose St. Louis dugout. So mostly: whatever. But now you can feel free to root against the Cards.
(Also, in his own voice, Miklasz later wrote that after his ninth-inning strikeout, “Harper responded by grabbing his crotch in a gesture meant to insult Motte. The ‘diss didn’t work out the way Harper had intended. (That’s a clown move, bro.) A few of the Cardinals that saw it hooted at Harper.” Nats Enquirer has an image of the crotch grab. Read the full Miklasz piece here.)
BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER…
The Redskins defense is…still a thing that exists.
J-Reid: “Darryl Hill never intended to become a civil rights pioneer.”
Boz: “No Game Today.” (That was yesterday, but no game today, either.)
VIDEO OF THE DAY
My colleague and pal LaVar Arrington would like you to vote for Question 7. And I write this as a non-Maryland voter who has no opinion on the matter or on LaVar stumping; it’s just the video of the day, because.

Uh, the ALCS I guess. Yankees at Tigers on Fox at 8:07. Neither team has yet insulted the Nats, so far as I know. All TV/Radio listings are here.
Z-Burger did indeed announce the exact promotional deal it would be running for the Nats in the NLCS a full four days before Game 6. One blog is calling this the Z-Burger Curse.
