Caps, Wizards set to announce new radio deal

Capitals fans, some of whom who have complained about the lack of an FM signal for their team’s games, will surely be pleased by the move pf radio broadcasts to 106.7 The Fan. (Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post)

The Caps and Wizards will announce a new radio arrangement on Friday, under which the  teams will essentially share a pair of local radio stations, according to a person in the radio industry.

Wizards games were mostly heard on 106.7 The Fan last season, while Caps games were usually on 1500 WFED. This season, both stations will carry games featuring both teams, with the Caps landing on 106.7 and the Wizards on 1500 during conflicts.

Caps fans – who have complained about the lack of an FM signal for their team’s games – will surely be pleased by the move to 106.7 The Fan. That station will also carry as many Wizards games as it can, working around the schedules of the Caps and its other play-by-play properties, including the Nats and Virginia Tech. WFED will continue to broadcast Caps games when the Wizards are not playing.

And if the Nats, Caps and Wizards all play at the same time? Well, let’s wait a few months before worrying about that. (I don’t believe there’s a more definitive answer yet.)
