Robert Griffin III is one of the most likable rookies in the NFL, but I’d argue he isn’t even the most likable rookie on his own team. That has to be Alfred Morris, the dude who hits up people at his apartment complex for rides to Redskins Park when his ’91 Mazda is on the fritz, and whose signature touchdown celebration is a nod to some youth baseball players he ate cupcakes with.

Also, Morris is to self-promotion like Jon Gruden is to silence. Like, this is what Morris said last week about RGIII’s superstardom.

“It’s a good thing for me, because I really don’t like the limelight,” Morris said, via the AP. “I just love playing the game. I don’t really need any outside attention. Not to say dump it on him, but he can have it all.”

So, not exactly a braggart. Of course, then he wore the above T-shirt during Sunday’s postgame interviews. And people noticed.

“These Redskins rookies sure are a modest bunch,” the New York Post’s Bart Hubbuch tweeted. “See Alfred Morris’ T-shirt in the postgame locker room.”

So, did we have Morris pegged incorrectly? Is he really a horrible egoist?

“Alfred, you’ve been so humble all year, what’s the scoop with your shirt?” a reporter asked the back after the game.

“Oh, I got it because it matched my shoes,” he said, and then laughed. “I mean, I forgot what it says. What’s it say?”

The reporter told him.

“Oh, I don’t think I’m that awesome,” he said, and laughed again. Then someone else asked about Washington’s four-game win streak, during which Morris has gained 435 yards.

“I mean, you don’t get caught in the hype, on the winning standpoint,” the running back said. “You know what I mean? We’ve just got to take it one game at a time. We know the situation we in, and that’s what we’re doing, taking it one game at a time. You know, once we come back on Wednesday, or Monday, or whenever we come back in to review this film and stuff, after that it’s on to the next game. We don’t remember this no more.”

So yeah. They sure are a modest bunch.
