Mark Turgeon poses with his student imitators

By Greg Fiume/Maryland Athletics.

It’s been almost a year since I first came across the Maryland students who dressed like Mark Turgeon — well, who wore suits, anyhow — during Terps basketball games.

“My friend, Cory, and I came up with the Turgeon suit idea over winter break because of the lack of excitement and support he received early on,” one of the gang e-mailed me then. “Most fans and students appeared to still be caught up about the retirement of Gary Williams and very few were interested in this season’s basketball team; attendance was low early on and the team had very low expectations. Obviously, Cory and I are very big Turgeon fans. We’re impressed by his honesty and character, plus he has done a phenomenal job, in our opinions.”

The suits caught on, with the group earning a “Turgeonites” nickname and Turgeon’s wife Ann even posing for photos with the gang.

But now Mark Turgeon himself has done his wife one better. This photo was taken after Maryland outlasted Boston College Tuesday night. It’s a good one. Click to make it bigger.
