Morning Pixels: RGIII reaches out to Tyrann Mathieu

If you told me, ‘Hey, some pro athlete offered meaningful advice to a troubled and maligned NFL prospect and also hung out with a bunch of teenaged girls at a Sweet Sixteen pool party in the same weekend,” I’d be like, “Cool, what else did RGIII do on Saturday?”

Sure enough, the Robert Griffin III Rehab Tour included advice for Tyrann Mathieu and some pool pics with a bunch of thrilled teenagers in recent days.

“Thanks for reaching out to me bro!!” the Honey Badger wrote to RGIII on Friday. “That was truly motivation & a inspiration! Much love.”

Then RGIII somehow ran into the aforementioned Sweet Sixteen party.

“He was doing therapy in the pool and we were coming in and my friend amanda was like you look like RG3 and he said I am, and then we asked for pictures and he said he’d take pictures when he was done!” one of the girls later explained on Twitter.

“Sweet 16 party runs in on me doing rehab in the pool…then one of the girls jumps in and tells me ‘I love you,’ ” the quarterback himself wrote.

The participants, of course, took it all in stride.

“I can’t believe we met RG3 and he tweeted about us!” one wrote.

“Thank you for taking a picture with us! You’re a sweetheart, and have MADE our day!!” wrote another.

“RGIII goes out of his way just to get a picture with me, I couldn’t be more thankful!” wrote a third.

“Pretty sure RGIII made this birthday party ten times better!” wrote a fourth.

“Thank you! You honestly made my birthday!” wrote the self-described birthday girl. “Best birthday ever!!!!!”

Then Griffin saved four puppies, cleaned up several garbage bags worth of litter and baked a blueberry pound cake for the elderly widow down the street.

* Wise raves about John Wall, says the Wizards care more when he’s playing, and that he’s “indispensable…to the Wizards’ future.”

* Reid on Sunday’s biggest local hoops game: “Maryland was downright horrible at times against Virginia — the Terrapins gave up way too many uncontested three-pointers — and isn’t among the ACC’s elite.”

* Nene opens up to Michael Lee about overcoming testicular cancer.

Nene, in that story about his illness, talks about receiving chemo:

“For four weeks, I was sick, I was weak. I could feel the liquid moving in the veins. I feel like a science fiction movie, where the liquid comes all over your body. It was like that.”

The Wizards are in Milwaukee at 8 on Comcast SportsNet. Georgetown hosts Marquette at 7 on ESPN. The Maryland women are at Duke at 7 on ESPN2. All TV/Radio listings are here.

First Niles Paul pointed out that Kelly Clarkson ‘has been loading up on the Cheddar Biscuits,’ but then he made amends.

Ok, it’s not quite RGIII at a Sweet Sixteen, but it’s not horrible: Pierre Garcon will show up at your kid’s Bar Mitzvah for $7,500. “Invite Pierre to join you and your guests at your birthday, bar/bat mitzvah, wedding, or anniversary party! He’ll be sure to be entertaining company,” reads his Thuzio page. He’ll also do a dinner date for $5,000. (Via @WillSommer)

This epic tale of the Navy SEAL who shot Osama Bin Laden in Esquire is not exactly a fun or joyful read. But there’s at least one enjoyable sidenote for local sports fans: the man’s favorite NFL team is the Redskins. That detail comes on page 3.
