How much does Davey Johnson like the makeup of his roster? He explained to Comcast SportsNet’s Mark Zuckerman.
“I mean, I said last year, if I was younger — to a man — I’d ask them into my house and I wouldn’t be worried about my daughters going out with them,” Johnson said. “I’d be happy they were going out with them. The makeup on this club, as you know, is off the charts. And makeup is a direct function of the performance.”
I don’t know. That Ian Desmond mustache is not really the stuff of future sons-in-law. But if Davey says so, I guess.
“We made a quantum leap being 18 games better [in 2012] than we were the previous year, and I still think there’s a higher ceiling,” Johnson also said. “So I’m gonna just try my darndest not to mess it up or get in their way.”
BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER
* Bryce Harper bulks up, but “I’m still going to eat Fruity Pebbles and Captain Crunch and all these cereals at 12 o’clock at night. I don’t really care.”
* Oh, Wizards. “Timeouts and substitutions were summoned by the sound of an air horn. Players had to check at midcourt for the score or keep it their heads . The public address announcer shouted out whenever the shot clock hit 10 seconds or five seconds.”
* In the most predictable result in world history, the Terps follow up the Duke win with a loss to Boston College.
* Svrluga says the Caps are still waiting for Braden Holtby to steal them a game.

Raptors broadcaster Matt Devlin, on Wale:
“Wale is inspiring, and I’m sure somebody on Twitter can tell me exactly if they’ve ever heard of Wale. He’s not Drake, that’s for sure.”

Here’s a very attractive label for a rye lager collaboration between The Brewer’s Art, DC Brau and Devils Backbone. Via @seanmmcnally. And here’s the Food section on the new craft brew palace near Nats Park: “If most craft breweries are akin to spacious but modest homes, Bluejacket, when it opens in May or June, will be a small mansion with all the amenities.”
The Peerless has a very interesting look at Alex Ovechkin’s massive 13-year contract, whether the team made a mistake in extending it beyond the original terms, and how difficult it is to judge such decisions in real time.
