John Wall recently launched his own site, complete with a news section and a corner dedicated to Kentucky. But it was the site’s welcome message that caught my eye.
The only destination for all things JW2, from the latest news and exclusive content to official JW2 products and apparel. Want to go #WALLin and never miss a beat? Enlist in my squad and receive email updates on all premium content, releases and updates.
From “JW2” to the play on #allin, this has Adidas written all over it.
Wall confirmed that both Adidas and Red Bull, companies with which he has sponsorship deals, were involved in the creation of the site. It’s certainly a marketing effort, but Wall sees the site as the next step to something he’s wanted to do for a while.
“I’m trying to start my own foundation this season, so to have all my giveaways and jerseys and shoes for the game, tickets for a game, just those types of things to give my fans more,” he told me. “It’s tough to do all that on Twitter and Instagram and Facebook. I have a good fanbase, and it gives me more opportunity to give tickets away.
“It’s exciting to interact with my fans more often,” he added.
As far as the JW2 moniker, Wall isn’t sure if he’s ready for that to be a permanent tag.
“Somewhat, maybe,” he said, when I asked if he was ready to join RGIII in the initials game. “Adidas is probably pushing that one more. I might use that one, but I don’t know yet.”
