Tim Hudson and Adam LaRoche are buddies, so when Hudson threw LaRoche a 47-mile-per-hour arching pitch during Thursdays spring training matchup, the Nats first baseman started laughing and had to step out of the batter’s box to compose himself. I love spring training.
James Wagner has the awesome details over at Nationals Journal, and you can see the actual pitch in the video above (the cameras regrettably didn’t catch LaRoche’s gigglefest). The broadcasters called it an Eephus pitch, but the word in the clubhouse was it was a knuckleball. Either way, it was Looney Tunes.
One of the many other terms for an Eephus pitch is a Bugs Bunny pitch, which just makes me want to watch this classic. Happy Friday.
