Since I got three notes from readers asking about Metro’s hours during the NCAA tournament games at Verizon Center Thursday night, here’s the news, via WMATA:

Metrorail will provide an additional hour of service from Gallery Place and Judiciary Square stations tomorrow night, March 28, following the NCAA 2013 East Regional games at Verizon Center. Following the event, fans will be directed to Gallery Place or Judiciary Square stations to enter the system. Entrances at all other Metro stations will close at their normal times, but customers will be able to exit at all stations during the additional hour of service

Customers should enter the system no later than 12:50 a.m. to ensure that they make the last trains. The extended Metrorail service is funded through an agreement with Verizon Center.

This has, of course, been an issue with several local sporting events over the past year. Last fall, LivingSocial was set to fund extra Metro service during Nats playoff games, although it turned out no extra service was needed. The Redskins paid to keep Metro open an extra hour during their Monday Night Football meeting with the Giants this past season. And the Caps paid to keep the system open an extra hour after their three-overtime playoff tangle with the Rangers last spring.
