As the only NFL player currently hosting a radio show about pro wrestling, Adam Carriker has occasion to talk about all sorts of things. Last week, during a rapid-fire Q&A segment where the defensive lineman handles questions from listeners, he dealt with an issue that’s sort of been in the news.

Via Mike Freeman:

“Based on interviews over the past several weeks with current and former players, I’m told that a current gay NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months — and after doing so, the player would attempt to continue his career.”

So that’s what brought the issue to Carriker’s pro wrestling show.

“Rumor has it there is a gay NFL player thinking about coming out,” a listener named Melissa wrote. “What are your thoughts?”

“Well there’s what, almost 2,000 NFL football players, maybe just under?” Carriker responded. “Odds are somebody out there in the big wide world of the NFL is gay. It’s tough to come out with these things….If somebody comes out, I think it’s gonna depend on the locker room. There are certain locker rooms that have veteran leadership moreso than others. For instance, if it was a Washington Redskin player, I don’t think it would be a big deal. We have a lot of veteran good guys, good veteran leadership on this team. I’m not saying it is, I’m just saying if it was.”

And then they moved on. But the interview landed on Out Sports, and likely earned Carriker a few new fans.
