Davey Johnson has regular call-in appearances on various shows for 106.7 The Fan. But something he said to reporters in Atlanta was bugging him, and so he decided to call  in on the station’s hotline, unannounced, to clear the air.

“The other day I was on the bench,” he said. “And I had all the cameras on me and everything and I was a little hacked off. We’d lost a couple of ball games and we weren’t playing too good. And one of the writers was asking me about, ‘Oh, I heard you on the show, Lombardozzi’s gonna play the next few days, blah, blah, blah.’ I said, ‘You heard that on the Flunkies.’ And I want to apologize to my buddies down there. He had me hacked off, because he was trying to write my lineup for the next couple of days.

“I know the guys can handle it,” he continued. “But I just wanted to tell them I wasn’t taking a jab at them. I was trying to downplay me talking to the experts on the Junkies.”

Everyone okay now? Good.

Johnson also talked about having to fight Bryce Harper out of the lineup on Wednesday.

“Boy, I’ll tell you. I almost had to wrestle him, and I’d have lost that wrestle. I couldn’t hardly get him out of the game [Wednesday] night. He was really hurting.

I said, ‘You’re out of there.’ He said, ‘No, I’m not. I’m staying in.’ I said, ‘You’re outta there.’ [he said] ‘No, I’m staying in.’ I said, ‘Get him out of here.’”

If there’s ever an argument to mic up Johnson in the dugout, that’s it.
