Sad Caps collapse is sad

Maybe this is what sports in the District is destined to be. Division titles, teams full of talent, seasons of hope. And premature playoff knockouts.

Maybe the constant disappointment fans feel after every meltdown makes the next meltdown easier to bear. Or maybe it doesn’t. I don’t know.

Maybe the empty rocks glass still on your coffee table, filled with the remnants of last night’s scotch when beer no longer sufficed, will serve as a reminder that you stuck through to the end, instead of retreating to your bed when it got bad.

Maybe we’ll get over this Caps collapse, and the pain will be a distant memory. Probably not today. But some day.

UNHAPPY TWEET OF THE NIGHT

DISMAL QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Nicklas Backstrom, on what the team should take away from this:

“Lesson? Maybe learn how to play in the playoffs, I would say.”

DEJECTED QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Troy Brouwer, on letting the fans down:

“We still want to play hard for the fans that were still here, we still wanted to show that we weren’t going to give up and it doesn’t matter what the score was. It’s a shame that it ended up the way that it did.”
