Wale name-drops Ted Leonsis in new track

“A great new song by Wale –  take a listen,” Ted Leonsis wrote on Wednesday. “A nice beat. My son and I are flattered that he would mention having dinner with us during the season. Listen at the 2:29 or so mark. Pretty cool, huh?”

Well, I listened. (You can check the track out here, but there is repeated profanity.) This, more or less, is what I came up with around the 2:29 mark:

As you’re reaching your goals;

You’re gonna meet you some foes

Having dinner with Leonises [sic] I’m dreaming to own

But for now, me and my homies seated by the flo’.

The people who compile lyrics on the Web, though, are perhaps less familiar with the Monumental Sports family. And thus, we get transcriptions like this:

“Having dinner… I’m dreaming to own. But for now me and my homies…”

And like this:

Having dinner with [?] I’m dreaming to own. But for now me and my homies [?]

And like this:

Having dinner with I’m dreaming to own. But for now me and my homies see the bottom floor

This was better:

Having dinner with Leonsis I’m dreaming to own. But for now me and my homies see the bottom floor

Baby steps. It takes a while to fully enter the pop culture lexicon.

Also, I couldn’t help but flashback to the first time the rapper met the owner.

“I don’t know who Wale the rapper is,” Leonsis said after a 2009 Caps win.

“You will soon,” his son, Zach, promised then.

Indeed.
