Last summer a group of former D.C.-area college basketball stars teamed up for a home-and-home with some Philadelphia counterparts. The sponsoring organization — the Basketball Alumni Legends League — promised a more extensive schedule in 2013.

Well, that schedule is now out. It includes six games at GW’s Smith Center, pitting the locals against opponents from North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and Philadelphia.

The six-game showcase — running from July 25 through August 8 — will include four games broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet. And the team’s roster, according to a press release, will include familiar names like Austin Freeman, John Gilchrist, James Gist, D.J. Strawberry, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Chris Monroe, Tony Taylor, Danilo Pinnock and Jai Lewis. The team will be coached by Johnny Newman.

There are “innovative” rules, limiting timeouts and discouraging late-game foul-a-thons, plus four-point shots. And the outfit is still hoping to launch a full-fledged league next summer, with six teams playing a 20-game schedule.

“The mission of The-BALL,” according to the release, “is to fill a void for passionate basketball fans during the dog days of summer, while also providing families and young professionals high-quality entertainment and a fun way to beat the heat.”

The games will be played on July 25, July 27, Aug. 1, Aug. 3, Aug. 5 and Aug. 8 in Foggy Bottom. Tickets will range from $8 to $20. Find more information here.
