Under the theory that middle-aged coaches talking about their aversion to modern technology will never not be entertaining, please do read this dialog from Mike Shanahan’s meeting with reporters on Monday evening.
Reporter: Mike Tomlin just started a twitter account; can we expect a Mike Shanahan Twitter account in the near future?
Shanahan: First of all, I’ve never been on Twitter. I don’t even have e-mail. I just learned to text about two years ago, so that’s where I’m at. No, seriously, I don’t have an e-mail. I do text, and I’m not very good at that. I’m NOT getting into the Twitter.
John Keim: So do you not read Twitter? Do you not read our tweets?
Shanahan: No. I never have read a Twitter account.
Keim: Ok. Good to know.
Ok, fine, Twitter’s for the kids, or the Millennials, or whatever. But how many top executives in 2013 — in any industry — do not use e-mail? I admire his commitment to avoiding technology. And I have to wonder how he communicates with Adam Schefter.
RGIII IN ONE WORD
WUSA’s Kevin Jones asked 30 Redskins players to describe Robert Griffin III in one word. “Amazing” won the day, followed by “Jesus” and “dynamic.” Josh Wilson went with “keystar.” Chris Baker went with “great.” And Pierre Garcon chose “Robert.” Read Kevin’s piece here.

VINE OF THE DAY
And yet one fan passed over the chance at an autograph in favor of the chance at a handshake. I find this to be the superior life choice.
MINOR LEAGUE PROMOTION OF THE DAY
Because this is amazing….
“The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, have announced their plans for Salute to Scandal Night on Thursday, August 1st. Headlining the night will be $1 hot dogs available at all of the Flying Squirrels concession stands….Fans in attendance will be invited that night to tweet pictures enjoying their $1 hot dogs to @GoSquirrels for the chance to win prizes.”
Yes, those are wiener pics, or whatever my editor changed that to.

Chris Baker really likes Connecticut.
AWARD OF THE DAY
Via a press release: “The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism announces the creation of The Sam Lacy-Wendell Smith Award to be presented annually in conjunction with the Shirley Povich Symposium to a sports journalist or broadcaster who has made significant contributions to racial and gender equality in sports.”
“Both men worked tirelessly over the years — writing, lobbying and cajoling MLB’s owners, many of them resistant, into trying to see the importance of integration to the future of not only the sport of baseball but to the country,” Povich Center director and my former boss George Solomon said in a statement.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Mike Rizzo, to the New York Post:
“We haven’t had our run yet, and I think we are talented enough to have a Dodger-type run.”
Time’s a wastin’.
