I’ve spoken to some of Nationals players in the past about the rubber-chicken sacrifice tradition and they seem to get a kick out of it. But I’m pretty sure this is the first time a player has actually participated. In public, at least.
Gio Gonzalez held a baseball clinic on Thursday and rubber-chicken sacrifice guru, Hugh Kaufman, showed up with a sacrificial fowl and asked Gonzalez to do the honors. Gonzalez, who once called for “more chicken mode stuff,” agreed. The Nats starter wielded the knife and, if you believe in such things, slashed the team’s bad juju.
It’s tragic that there’s no video. These photos will have to do.
