Last season, Chris Cooley revealed that Kirk Cousins had put a trademark statement on his huddles.

“Every time he enters the huddle, he says TEAM! before he calls the play,” Cooley explained at the time. “So he gets in the huddle – TEAM! – then he calls the play.”

Well, it looks like the days of TEAM! are over. Cousins explained to Comcast recently that an intervention by Trent Williams ended the huddle habit.

“It was a habit of mine from college to say ‘team’ before every play,” Cousins told Tarik El-Bashir. “As a rookie last year, I had so much going through my mind that you try to change as few habits as possible. And one of those habits that didn’t change was that. But we walked into OTAs and Trent  said to me, half joking, half serious, ‘You have to stop saying team, man, it’s just weird.’ I said, ‘Alright, for you, Trent, I’ll stop it.’ So I stopped saying it.”

On Monday’s Holden and Danny on 106.7 The Fan, Williams, who last year admitted that RGIII has told him to shut it in huddles a few times, elaborated.

“Yeah, I mean, it got kinda annoying when somebody screams ‘TEAM!‘ every time we come in,” Williams laughed. “I don’t know. He said he used to do it in college and couldn’t stop it. All the guys kept giving him a hard time and finally he kicked the habit.”

So how does Cousins start huddles now?

“Just a regular, ‘Hey, guys. Listen up,'” said Williams. “You know, what every other quarterback says.”

Williams also took responsibility for leading the charge on the anti-TEAM! movement.

“I think I said it. I was the first guy,” he said, when asked who brought up the issue with Cousins. “Everyone else is just chuckling, you know, laughing at him. But I had to let him know he was the butt of the jokes.”
