Bradley Beal graduated from Chaminade College Prep School in 2011. Just two years later, on Friday, the school retired Beal’s No. 23 in a ceremony.

“This is really unreal,” Beal told KMOV in St. Louis. “I’m real emotional right now because a few years ago I was just in high school. And the fact that they’re retiring my jersey, and the fact that…everything that this school has done for me. It blessed me in so many ways, gave me so many opportunities and allowed me to succeed in the classroom and on the floor. I took advantage of every opportunity, and without these guys, my teammates and coaches and support of the school, I probably wouldn’t be where I am now.”

The retirement dashes the hopes of future Chaminade stars who want to be like Mike or LeBron. Or Bradley Beal.

Beal offered the above images from the ceremony via Instagram, with another note of appreciation.

Today was a special and emotional day for myself. My high school jersey was retired!! I am truly blessed and have accomplished a lot with plenty of space for more..Anything is possible with God on your side !!#HumbleHungry !!

I think #HumbleHungry should be this year’s “new traditions.”
