Niles Paul on Mike Shanahan’s slow-motion yelling

The slow-motion Vine of Mike Shanahan hollering at Niles Paul on Sunday isn’t pretty. It made the rounds fairly quickly in the following days but it never made it to Paul himself, so I showed it to him at Redskins Park this afternoon.

“I wasn’t really paying attention at the time. I didn’t look at his face ‘cause I was trying to get away from him,” he said, laughing at the video. “But that’s hilarious.”

Getting yelled at on the sidelines is par for the course in the NFL, and most players and coaches move on pretty quickly. But when Shanahan and Paul passed each other in the halls earlier this week, the coach did something unexpected.

“Shanny actually apologized, too,” Paul said. “I didn’t think it was that serious. He was laughing. He said, ‘My wife told me I was pretty upset with you on the sideline.’ And I was like, ‘Honestly, I was so [ticked] off at the penalty that I wasn’t even paying attention.’ I didn’t realize I was getting chewed out that bad until now.”

“But that is really funny,” Paul continued, as he watched the video replay over and over.

Here it is again, so you can watch it over and over, too. It’s weirdly mesmerizing.
