If you watched the Caps game in Winnipeg Tuesday night, you noticed that the home crowd seemed much more enthusiastic about sarcastically chanting Braden Holtby’s name and about booing Alex Ovechkin than about cheering for the Jets.
I’m not sure, but I think I might have heard the Jets fans actually rooting for their team, rather than booing the opposition, for a sec.

Plus, some kid showed up with a sign about how his grandma has a stronger shot than Ovechkin, and everyone loved him.
This from the same crowd that serenaded Ovechkin with “Crosby’s better” chants two seasons ago.
Anyhow, Holtby — despite all the sneering chants — made 43 saves, setting a new career high. And Ovechkin scored two goals, giving him a league-best nine on the season.
Kid’s grandma must have a pretty wicked shot.
AIKMAN ON THE SKINS CALL
Hey everyone, great news! Troy Aikman will be doing the color commentary for Sunday’s Redskins-Broncos game! That means there will be 12,632 complaints from Washington fans during the game about how Aikman is biased against their team. Thom Brennaman has the play-by-play.
FROM BABE RUTH TO JAN VESELY
On Monday, I showed you how to get from Walter Johnson to RGIII in seven steps. Now Kilgore’s here to show you how to get from Babe Ruth to Jan Vesely, also in seven steps. There are assists from Del Crandall and Danny Ainge.
JORDAN REED’S GIRLFRIEND
Via Wow Redskins, I learned that Jordan Reed’s girlfriend was raised in Alaska, ran track at Florida, is studying to be a pediatric neurosurgeon, and watches documentaries about the human brain during her spare time. That’s a lot of stuff.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Always fun when your coach is lambasting your effort in the preseason. Randy Wittman went there on Tuesday. Via Michael Lee:
“We didn’t show up,” Wittman said. “Our guys, they think we can turn it on and off like a switch, we’re kidding ourselves. That’s what we did in that first half. Came out, didn’t play for each other and why we continue to fall back into that, I got to figure that out. That was an embarrassment. I was embarrassed with that effort in the first half. The second half, they played for each other, got after it and made it a game. It’s pretty black and white, but we will not, for whatever reason fully buy into that.”
