Before I proceed, I would caution that you not judge anyone mentioned in this item too harshly. Sure, these players keep talking about each other, but it’s because they’re asked about each other. And sure, the sports-radio hosts and journalists keep asking, but it’s because the results are so entertaining. And sure, we’d all be better off tending to an organic garden, but you’re here reading this right now, so you can’t really judge.

So anyhow, in case you missed it, Brandon Meriweather was suspended for hitting some Bears receivers, and then Bears receiver Brandon Marshall said “a guy like that has no place in the NFL,” and then Bears tight end Martellus Bennett said “I still want to punch him in the face,” and then DeAngelo Hall said “that’s just something you don’t do” (speaking of the Bears’ public comments), and then Meriweather said some unsavory things about Marshall’s personal life and also said he’d have to go after receivers’ knees now.

And then, later Monday, Chicago-area radio shows asked both Marshall and Bennett to respond.

“I have no response to that. You know, I’m praying for that guy,” Marshall told ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy show. “He actually reached out to me last week, and I told him I was more concerned about him and his health. Because I think a few weeks before our game, I saw him laying on the field just out cold. It was a scary situation. I never want to see him or any player laid out like that. As far as what he said [Monday], you can only pray for someone with those feelings. So that’s all I have to say about that….I’m just praying for that guy. Like I said, I just want to see the health of the league continue to get better, and guys continue to stay healthy. And for guys like that, I’m just going to pray for them.”

Bennett had a longer and more amusing opinion, offered during his weekly appearance on 670 The Score.

Host: We heard from all kinds of people who don’t like the Bears. And you, in particular, now are you frightened of DeAngelo Hall the next time you run into him?

Bennett: Oh, nah. I haven’t heard anything everybody said. For me, that’s what, two weeks ago? So much has happened since then. I don’t even really care, honestly. It’s funny that people are still stuck on that subject. You know, talk about living in the past.

Host: Well here’s what DeAngelo Hall said, he said Martellus, I don’t know him personally, but he had a chance to say whatever he wanted to during the game, after the game, and the kid didn’t open his mouth. So, no respect for a guy who wants to take a shot after the fact. If you want to take a shot, take a shot when you’re right there. No respect for a guy like that.

Bennett: That’s all right.

Host: That doesn’t bother you?

Bennett: No, not really. That don’t bother me. I mean, there’s not much you CAN do during a game. I can’t lose my check.

Host: Yeah, I just think it’s funny, so many bad feelings created by one game….Whatever it was about those Skins, they irritate people.

Bennett: Well me personally, I said what I said, it is what it is. I mean, I really don’t care. After Monday, I really didn’t care. Then it was Tuesday. Then Wednesday came, then Thursday came, and then Friday. And if I’m not mistaken, Saturday came after that. And then they played the Broncos, and they’re still talking about the Bears? I mean, it really don’t matter to me.
