Basketball Bingo with the Maryland women’s basketball team

via Maryland Women’s Basketball Facebook page

The Maryland women’s basketball team is 16-1, so I can’t imagine there are too many issues with fans not paying attention at games. But just in case you need extra incentive, the school’s promotion team has introduced Basketball Bingo.

During the team’s game against Syracuse, fans got Bingo cards (seen above) loaded with various things that may happen during a basketball game, such as “home team has offensive rebound” or “referee calls traveling” or “players go into crowd.” Fans who were able to mark off a Bingo on their card were eligible for prizes, including gift cards, prize packs, T-shirts and NCAA tournament tickets. According to a school rep, there were more than 150 total winners during the course of the game.

The rep said that they have no current plans to offer the promotion during a men’s game, but they may do it again for another women’s game. My initial reaction was a cynical “I can’t believe they did this during a women’s game” and Dan’s was “I’d totally play that.” Perhaps he and I have switched blogging pants for the day.
