The cut-out-famous-heads-at-sporting-events trend certainly isn’t new, but Georgetown fans seem to have elevated their own efforts this season. Last Monday’s game against Marquette at Verizon Center featured more cut-out heads than I could count; they included Allen Iverson, school president John DeGioia, Georgetown alum Jim Gaffigan, Erin Andrews, Bill Raftery, Barney, Georgetown recruit Marcus Derrickson, Tommy from Rugrats, Harry Potter and the Pope.

Plus a few more that I have no idea about. No one told me we would be tested on popular culture in this space.

The Hoyas host Villanova Monday night, with another late tip. If the team isn’t going to win, the fans might as well bring lots of faces.

Gaffigan, at least, acknowledged his newfound fame. The Pope, far as I can tell, did not.

(Many thanks to Christine Burns for permission to use her photos; see the full set here. And thanks to @Glidehoyas for the heads-up.)
