Every year, the NBA honors Chinese New Year in a variety of cultural ways, and the Wizards are holding their celebration on Saturday when they host Oklahoma City. A release sent out by the team outlines some of the festive happenings.

As part of the celebration of the Year of the Horse, players will be introduced in Mandarin and will wear specially designed Chinese New Year shooting shirts. The first 6,000 fans will receive Year of the Horse-branded wristbands and there will be activities honoring Chinese culture including traditional musicians, singers, a Gusheng team and calligraphy on the concourse.

Verizon Center is also introducing some Chinese-inspired food offerings at the game. A team rep sent along the menu.

Chinatown Tenders – all 6 grill stands will feature their Chinatown Tossed Tenders with Fries (Tenders tossed in General Tso’s sauce).
Chinese Fusion Tacos – Stand at section 120 will have Chinese-style taco recipes. (The menu item is still being finalized.)
Fortune Cookies – They plan to give out fortune cookies at all 100 and 400 level food and beverage locations with every transaction while supplies last.

General Tso’s Chicken and fortune cookies would be great if they were celebrating Chinese-American Takeout Night, because that stuff’s about as Chinese as the mumbo sauce at Yum’s Carryout. But it’s a fun departure from the usual food items. Let’s hope at least of of the fortunes is “Your team will rise above .500 soon.”

Some fans will also receive a stuffed horse. Because, Year of the Horse. Not gonna lie, I actually want one of these.
