This may be the most ridiculous post about Robert Griffin III I’ve written yet.

It all started when Adam Bradley of Ball Hogs Radio posted a birthday letter to RGIII, comparing the Redskins quarterback’s life trajectory to that of Abraham Lincoln’s. RGIII saw the tweet linking to the letter and retweeted with a #Respect added. Now it’s entirely likely that he didn’t even read the post, just saw the tweet and hit the RT button a bit too quickly. Perhaps we was still trigger happy from retweeting all of his birthday wishes the day before.

Now, with all due #Respect to Bradley, comparing a 24-year old NFL quarterback to the man who freed the slaves might seem a bit distasteful to some. Whether because he came to his senses, or got a call from one of his many image management people, RGIII quickly deleted the endorsement.

But, as things go in the lightening speed world of the Internet these days, he wasn’t able to delete before criticism started raining down from the peanut gallery. RGIII, who as we already know is not a fan of haters, defended himself.

To be fair, it wasn’t until RGIII’s retweet of the letter that people began to pay attention. And unfortunately when you’re a public figure, the whole “retweets do not equal endorsements” qualifier doesn’t apply. But if there’s any good to come from all of this, it’s all of the RGIII-Lincoln comparison jokes that carried us through the snow day. My favorite is this line from PFTCommenter.

“Both lost there jobs when they were watching a performance of a American Cousins.”

Nats new catcher Jose Lobaton explains why he’s called the “Ice Cream Man” and it’s amazing.

And then he went and got some gelato.
