Dustin Penner, attempting to set this year’s record for blog-posts-inspired-within-24-hours-of-a-trade, talked to Caps radio voice John Walton on Wednesday afternoon. Walton asked about Penner’s stated desire to take up residence in the White House. Turns out the Obamas have not yet responded to this request.

“I understand he’s busy, so I’ll give him a bit of a grace period to get back to me,” the winger said of President Obama. “I know he’s got a lot of rooms there. I’m not sure every one’s being used. It doesn’t have to be one that they would publicly say they have. It could be one with, like, I could type in a security code. But it would just be nice, a place to hang my hat and have a home-cooked meal.”

Meanwhile, when talking to other media members in the dressing room, Penner talked about what he’s left behind in California.

“I’m gonna go see my dogs in a couple weeks,” he said.

So he was asked who has the dogs in the interim.

“My parents,” he said. “They were in the middle guest room, so they moved to the penthouse suite, which was my room. Now they’re probably inviting people over for the vacant room.”

Penner also talked to Walton about his Winkler, Manitoba connection with Eric Fehr.

“We have a lot of similar friends back from our high school days,” the forward said. “I believe [Fehr] married a Winkler girl, as well. So he’s probably Winkler’s favorite, because I haven’t married a Winkler girl yet. I was married. Now I’m not. So I could be really far down the books in Winkler.”
