New Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts said he knew he was never in Arizona’s free agency plans, but that he did hear from several other teams this week, including San Diego, Cleveland and Jacksonville. Roberts said he chose Washington because of how the offense will use him, and because of that offense’s quarterback.

“I had a couple choices but being able to come in here, they’re asking me to do some things that I want to do, that I feel like I’m very capable of doing,” Roberts told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on SiriusXM NFL Radio late Wednesday night. “It was pretty much mutual in what we expected from each other. And having a young guy like RGIII with a chip on his shoulder, I feel like I’m young and I’m able to grow with a guy like that. He’s a pretty special guy, and I’m looking forward to playing with him.”

Roberts also listed the quarterback among the people he’s talked offense with in recent days.

“I’ve talked to Coach Gruden and our [offensive coordinator] and our receivers coach,” Roberts said. “They’ve told me a little bit on how I’m going to be used out here. I’ve definitely talked to RG, and we’ve had our conversations about how I’m going to be used and what he expects out of me. It sounds like it’s gonna be a lot of fun. And like I said, they expect me to do some things that I want to do, I’ve done and I feel like I’m able to do, so I think it’s gonna work perfectly.”

Roberts also said he’s “very happy to be out in Washington, being able to bring my talents out here. The things they expect me to do out here is exactly what I want.” And when Brandt mentioned that the team and its fans are kind of a big deal in this market, Roberts said he already know.

“That’s all I’ve heard since I’ve been here, is how loyal the fans are, when you win and when you lose,” he said.
