A smaller number of people in Washington — at least, judging anecdotally — are obsessed with the Washington Wizards, although those numbers are also rising.
Anyhow, L.A.-based comedian and writer Joe Mande cleverly combined these two things about a month ago, creating a ‘House of Guards’ motif.
Many people thought this was fun and amusing and started using the phrase and Mande’s image. But this was an internet-only goof.
Then, on Saturday, Verizon Center’s in-arena team store began selling Adidas ‘House of Guards’ T-shirts. Which was pretty startling. According to a team spokesman, these shirts were a collaboration between Adidas and the Wizards, with the initial idea to use the phrase coming from Adidas.
They cost $35, according to @HoopDistrictDC. And Mande would like a cut.
If these House of Guards t-shirts are real, I better see some residuals. https://t.co/pzRy873MMe— Joe Mande (@JoeMande) March 15, 2014

AMAZING MIKE WISE MOMENT OF THE DAY
“My Final Four: Indiana, Georgetown, Gonzaga and Michigan State.”
In case you’ve forgotten, his four Final Four teams won a total of five games; none made it past the Sweet 16.
