Prior to kickoff of yesterday’s 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire, D.C. United held a moment of silence for Shawn Kuykendall, the former American University soccer standout and D.C. United player who died March 12 after an eight-month battle with an incurable form of thymic cancer.
MLS players across the league wore black #kuykenstrong armbands in memory of Kuykendall, who made two regular season appearances with D.C. United in 2005. He was traded to New York the following season before a knee injury ended his career.
