Robert Griffin III and his family showed up nearly an hour before Sunday night’s Wizards-Pacers game. Lots of people got excited.
Griffin and his mom, Jackie Griffin, were shown on the arena’s big screen before the game, and again during the first quarter.
“We’re all trying to bring the city together,” Griffin told Comcast SportsNet before the game. “There’s certain special elements to sports that can unite a city, and that’s what we want to do. So I kind of adopted all the D.C. teams when I got here. And that’s why I’ll always be a Wizards fan and support these guys — John Wall, Bradley Beal and Nene, all these guys. And just like I’m here today, they need all these fans to be here and support them.”
Griffin also said his appearance was linked to Mother’s Day, as evidenced by his shirt.
“I surprised her here tonight with court-side seats,” he told CSN. “It’s Mother’s Day. I want her to feel like she’s appreciated. I tried to do everything I can, from getting a cleat dedicated solely to her, all the posts on Instagram and Twitter, just to show her how much I love her.”
“For us and our family, Mother’s Day is every day,” his mom told the network. “I just enjoy being around him and my other two kids all the time. And to me the greatest gift on earth is being a mother.”
